How the Municipality of Ranst is creating additional local swimming areas using a mobile swimming pool that adapts to the needs of its constituent districts.
Local swimming waters for a municipality comprising several towns and villages
In Ranst, too, there is a high demand for accessible swimming facilities. Schools, clubs and residents need additional swimming facilities close to home.
The challenge was therefore clear: to create additional swimming areas that are not only ready for use quickly, but can also adapt to local needs.
The approach
A swimming pool that comes to the residents
Swimwise is installing a moveable Swimclad in Ranst: a fully equipped, covered swimming pool that can be used at various locations within the municipality for different periods.
The swimming pool will be in Oelegem in 2026. In the next phase, it will move to Broechem.
Portable and flexible
The swimming pool can be dismantled after a period of use and reassembled at another location. In this way, the infrastructure adapts to demand.
Natural swimming water
The pool uses naturally filtered, chlorine-free water.
This ensures a pleasant swimming experience and is gentler on the skin, eyes and respiratory tract.
Wide range of local options
The Swimclad can accommodate up to 50 swimmers at a time and is used for swimming lessons, aqua sports, open-water swimming, training sessions, sports camps and activities organised by external partners.
We bring the swimming pool to the local community and ensure that the infrastructure adapts to local needs.

The result
More opportunities to swim, spread across the municipality
With the relocatable Swimclad, Ranst is creating additional swimming capacity without having to wait for a lengthy construction process.
The swimming pool brings a varied range of facilities closer to local residents and can serve several local districts.
Swimming closer to home
By installing the swimming pool locally, journeys are shorter and it becomes easier for people to learn to swim or take regular exercise.
Space for different target groups
Children, adults, competitive swimmers and recreational swimmers all use the same facilities.
Schools, physiotherapists, care homes and sports clubs can also use the swimming pool for bespoke activities.
Infrastructure that adapts
This portability makes it possible to spread the available swimming capacity across several locations.
This enables the local authority to respond to changing needs without having to build new permanent infrastructure every time.
